Training a Cirneco dell’Etna To Be a Watch Dog

Lots of people get a pet dog because they want more security around their homes. A guard dog, or a dog that will really stop an intruder, generally takes unique breeding and training, but there are many dogs that are outstanding watch dogs.

A watch dog merely alarms their owner to someone approaching their house. Even though your pet dog isn't a police canine, most barking dogs will deter an intruder even if they aren't large. Most guard dogs also make excellent watch dogs, but not all watch dogs make good guard dogs.

    Top 5 Best Guard Dogs

    3. Rottweiler - The Rottweiler is a large German guard dog breed that is deeply loyal to its family but wary of strangers. However, they are not a great choice for inexperienced canine owners.

    4. German Shepherd - They are impressive guard dogs that will alert their owners of any strangers just a little too close to their homes.

    5. Akita - They will quickly alarm their owners to any unusual activity. They are strong dogs that are not well-suited for the novice owner, but are almost unparalleled in their loyalty to their owners.

Cirneco dell’Etna Information

The Cirneco dell'Etna is a small breed of dog originally from Italian island of Sicily. This hound was historically used to hunt rabbits and can work for hours without food or water. The breed also has a keen sense of smell and is primarily built for endurance over harsh terrain such as that of Mount Etna. It is the smallest of the Mediterranean island hunting hounds, the others being the Pharaoh Hounds and Ibizan Hounds.

Today they are increasingly kept for conformation showing and as pets, due to their low coat maintenance and friendly nature, although as active hounds they do need regular exercise. A Cirneco should measure from 43 to 51 cm (17 to 20 in) and weigh between 10 and 12 kg (22 and 26 lb). As with other breeds, those from hunting stock can lie outside these ranges.
