Training a Kromfohrlander To Be a Watch Dog

Many people get a pet dog because they want extra security around their homes. A guard dog, or a pet dog that will really stop an intruder, usually takes unique breeding and training, but there are many dogs that are outstanding watch dogs.

A watch dog basically alerts their owner to somebody approaching their house. Even though your pet dog isn't a police canine, most barking dogs will deter an intruder even if they aren't large. Most guard dogs also make great watch dogs, but not all watch dogs make good guard dogs.

    Top 5 Best Guard Dogs

    1. Doberman Pinscher - The Doberman Pinscher is German breed originally used for safeguarding, police and military work. They are big, powerful dogs that will alarm their owners to questionable activity and can make great guard dogs as well.

    2. Cairn Terrier - Although small, the Cairn Terrier is mighty. They are strong-willed, fiery little terriers that are really observant of their settings and will notify their owners to any novel activity in no time. Due to this, they make outstanding watch dogs.

    3. Rottweiler - The Rottweiler is a huge German guard dog breed that is greatly loyal to its family but wary of strangers. However, they are not a good choice for beginner canine owners.

    4. German Shepherd - They are outstanding guard dogs that will alert their owners of any strangers just a little too close to their homes.

    5. Akita - They will quickly alarm their owners to any uncommon activity. They are strong dogs that are not well-suited for the amateur owner, but are almost unparalleled in their loyalty to their owners.

Kromfohrlander Information

The Kromfohrländer comes in 2 coat variations: wirehaired (Rauhaar) and smooth haired (Glatthaar). The distinction is the presence of a beard on the wirehaired variety and a rather long coat on the smooth haired variety. Therefore the wirehaired resembles a terrier, while the smooth haired looks rather like a spaniel. The color is brown/tan/buff markings on a white background with a blaze on the face 'as symmetrical as possible.'

The Kromfohrländer is a very lively, good-natured, intelligent breed with a comparatively weak hunting instinct, loves to play and run and can adapt to many situations fairly well. Kromfohrländers are very much "people dogs" and they rarely stray very far from their owner. They take to strangers and children rather hesitantly at first, but once they get familiar, they are friends for life.
